Noise
Impending changes to existing Noise at Work Regulations 1989 are currently being planned. The proposals focus on the implementation of the European Physical Agents (Noise) Directive in the form of new Regulations planned to come into force from February 2006.
These new Regulations will have considerable impact on the manufacturing, engineering and food preparation industries in particular. The main changes are to reduce the noise action levels and this will mean that some employers who already take action to control noise may have to do more, whilst others who do not do anything currently, may have to start taking action.
Employers must reduce employees exposure to noise to the lowest reasonably practicable level and keep records of the results of noise surveys and checks carried out on workers hearing.
Turner Safety’s IOSH qualified, competent consultants can develop a Noise Management Programme and carry out noise assessments to ensure your statutory responsibilities are met. The new Regulations provide an opportunity to update and improve current procedures to include new techniques and technology that can reduce costs, resources and time required to manage the risk from noise.
